Oil Barges Are Effective For Transporting Liquid Cargoes

Barges often also known as pontoons are a type of ship that has the characteristics of a flat hull and is in the form of a large box that floats. Meanwhile, Oil Barge means that the barge is focused on transporting cargo in liquid form.

Barges generally do not have a mechanical system for propulsion engines so that for operation they are towed by tugboats. The unique fact is that in ancient times this ship was often used to transport passengers across rivers because there was no pedestrian bridge. But as technology advances, barges currently only transport goods.

As an archipelagic country, barges are very easy to find in Indonesian waters, especially in Kalimantan and Sumatra, as well as river waters with a depth of more than 5 meters. On average, these ships are used to transport coal, bauxite, sand, heavy equipment, and liquid cargo.

For barges that carry cargo in liquid form, it is usually called an oil barge. The distinctive feature of an oil barge is that the cargo is stored in the loading tanks and there are pipes like a tanker. In operation, there is a generator supplying electric power which is equipped with a pump engine for loading and unloading.

In general, this type of oil barge barge has accommodation space equipped with a complete safety system. This oil barge does not have a main engine, only a generator engine and a pump engine. The generator engine on the ship functions to turn on the lights, communication devices, and cooking equipment to support the ship's operations.
